More on social media presence

Hi there, last week I posted about social media and my presence there and you can read that post by clicking here

That post got a few likes and comments both here on the blog as well as on Twitter so I decided this could be a matter to look into more closely. One of my readers told me about Tumblr, I did recognise the name but I’ve never used it…or so I thought. My reader said that there was a community of crafters on Tumblr so I decided to go take a look and she was absolutely right. I found lots of crafters and blogs that I was not familiar with so of course I immediately wanted to join the fun and that’s when I discovered that way back then, I had actually joined Tumblr! And I had 2 posts on there, one to my old eshop which does not exist any more and one for my french blog which does not exist either! So clearly I had heard something about this social media but never really gotten into it.

But since I’m in this social media experiment mood, I revived my profile there and posted a few pictures, updated my shop and blog urls and subscribed to a lot of knitting, crochet, spinning and yarn dyeing related blogs. So I’m quite excited about this new venue for me, now the question will be if I will be able to maintain a regular presence there because like so many of you have said, if you are not going to be a regular presence it’s better to close down the profile as a stagnant profile with no activity can do more harm than good as people may think you have closed down or that you are just not a serious person/business. So I’m going to see how this works for me in the next few weeks, I think I need to give it a go for a little while to see if this is a venue for me and if I’m able to maintain my profile on a regular basis. So if you too are on Tumblr you can check out my activity at Tumblr

I also checked on Instagram, I actually have the app on my phone and I knew that I had signed up a long time ago and maybe even posted a pic or two but thats all. I’ve noticed posts from instagram by friends on Twitter and Facebook so I know that Instagram is a social network that people are using but I just don’t know if that is something I should use as well. So I’m curious, are you on Instagram? Are you, like me, on a number of social media websites and if so do you use each one differently – like do you use one for professional purposes, one for personal etc. Or have you maybe after using a number of those narrowed it down to just 1 or 2 and do all your socializing there?

So of course, I also went to Instagram and posted a picture. I haven’t had the time yet to overhaul my profile there but I need to if I want to test this out and see if Instagram is a venue that can work for my blog and online shop or not.

I admit that after doing this browsing and reviving of profiles on different social media, I find I have a real preference for PInterest for inspiration, Twitter for pictures of my handmade items and shop announcements, Tumblr for blog reading, Youtube for learning new techniques and Facebook more for personal purposes. Google + I need to work on because I’m sure that is something I can use to bring me more visibility online and help with my shop so I think Google + will be something I will use in the future for business purposes.

Well, that’s all for now. I have tons of work to do today before doing my “normal” job this evening so until next time take care and enjoy your new week 🙂

Branching out on social media

Hi there, it’s been a very busy week and not a lot of blogging or preparation for the show has been done. This weekend will have to be well used as the I Knit Fandango show is practically around the corner so I have to finish my sock knitting kits and my kits for the Marin shawl by Ysolda Teague. I’m also going to prepare kits for a crochet shawl –  a design by a young French designer. The pattern is called Muscari by Mam’zell Flo. I’m excited about this new crochet kit which will be my first crochet kit and also the first kit including a pattern by a French designer. So lots of work for me and I hope that next time I come back to post I will be able to share some success stories and pictures with you here of my finished/prepared kits and yarns.

Now the title of todays post is “branching out on social media”, we all enjoy and use social media up to a certain extent, some use it more than others. I began using Facebook and it was really the only social media I used for my business. Then I went on to Twitter but that is something I have not really used to its full potential so that is something I need to look into. I also created an account on instagram and Flickr but have more or less abandoned those unfortunately.

Today I mostly concentrate on Pinterest which I find to be super inspiring and I spend a lot of time there just looking at great ideas and beautiful things. My following on Pinterest is growing and I hope to continue in that direction. I didn’t quite understand the interest in using Pinterest at the beginning but boy has my opinion changed since then! I just love finding inspiration for colours, knits, crochet items, jewelry, and so forth. Endless daydreaming and inspiration for any crafter.

And then there is Google+, now I’m told it is important to be present on Google + so I just recently did something about that and I now actually share my blog posts on Google +. I’m curious, what is your favorite social media? Where do you connect with friends/family and other crafters? Do you think that it is important for a company to be present on ALL social media outlets or would you think it is better to just concentrate on 1-2 and do them to the fullest ?

And what about Youtube? I’m on Youtube a lot as a consumer of tv shows, films and of course how to videos of all sorts. I was wondering if you too used Youtube for crafting related purposes? Do you go there for tutorials? For podcasts? To learn something new? Do you have a favorite crafting channel or a favorite crafting youtuber? Something you would like to share with us in case we are not familiar with those? I would love to hear from you on the subject. So I thought, why not create my own Youtube channel, not necessarily to post videos of myself or my crafts but to sort of create a library of interesting crafting channels and how to videos and then share this with my followers. A channel that could be like a reference for you when you are looking for something knitting/crochet or fibre related. Well I did start but it is going to take quite some time to do this well so I’m not going to talk about this everywhere for the time being as I need to work a lot on this but I did want to tell you about it and you can check it out and any suggestions for this new Knitting in France Youtube channel are welcome. So check what I have got so far here

That is all for today folks, I have not done a lot of knitting this week so no pictures of in progress items. I do have a confession, I did RIP my socks out again!!! This must be like a limited curse on me these days and hopefully I’ll escape from it soooon! I ripped out the socks and cast on immediately so now I’m doing them 2 in 1 style and of course so far so good:) Cross my fingers and hopefully I’ll be able to share a picture of these future socks soon.

Until next time, take care, enjoy your weekend and I hope you will have the time to do lots of knitting/crochet/spinning or any other craft you enjoy 🙂
