Endless socks

Hi there everyone, how are you? It’ s almost weekend now. The week has whizzed by in a blurr.

We have had some rather nice weather here in Normandy, France this past week and even eat outside in the garden last Saturday. I´m still hard at work on my studies and I have just begun working as well. Not a lot, only small translation and proofreading projects so far to ease into thing slowly but surely. This has brought back a lot of memories, both good and bad, about what it is like to work as a translator. It’s not enough to speak fluently a number of languages, sometimes the simplest of words can be super tricky to accurately translate depending on the context. But some general brain gymnastic cannot be a bad thing! I just need to retrain myself and work up to cruising speed or I will never earn an actual living!,

But enough on work. Let’s talk knitting.

So this past week I finished test knitting a sweater that will be published soon so I should be able to share pictures and more info later this month. The sweater calls for lace yarn held double. It makes for a very light garment and I chose some of my own hand dyed yarns for this. I think this will be the perfect sweater for spring and early summer.

I also finished my test knit socks. I don’t know what they will be called yet but as this was not a secret test knit I can share the finished pictures with you.

What do you think? I quite like the finished item and the heel construction was fun to learn. Even though the heel looks, to me, a little strange/unusual, it does fit perfectly. I knit this using Socks Yeah! yarn and this was the first time, I think, using that yarn. It was quite nice to work with and has given me a very smooth finish I think. I will of course share the pattern link when this has been published.

And I started a new pair of socks. I have been part of the Solid Socks group on Ravelry for a while but never actually joined in their challenges. But last week I saw that this month they are running a mystery sock kal and the designer is none other than General Hogbuffer! I love their patterns so I decided to join in. We get a clue a week and I have finished clue 1 for both socks.

I´m using Regia Silk 4 ply for this pair. The yarn is very soft and nice to work with. It feels rather plump. These are knit on size 2,50 mm needles. The pattern is called Pescatarian.

And while I´m knitting all the socks, a friend asked if I would knit a pair for her nephew and of course I said YES! I sent her pictures of different yarns and he chose a self striping one. I chose to knit the Socks on a plane pattern. This is a free pattern on Ravelry and is knit toe up. I split my ball of yarn to knit two at a time or rather consecutively as I´m not knitting both on a single needle. I started one and then the other. Today as I was listening to a school webinar I started the cable pattern on the second sock…. unfortunately that was not a good idea because I made a mistake. The cables should mirror each other so that the position of the cable pattern is identical on both socks and instead of mirroring I knit the exact same thing!

See? The cables should be on the inside of each sock…. Well I´m not very far along so I can rip back and start over. It’s just always so frustrating to make mistakes like this! After all my knitting time is precious so I´m a little bother but hey, should teach me not to knit cables while studying!

And then the biggest knitting event this month, Sock Madness is coming up. We received the list of items needed for all the patterns a while ago so I have already chosen my yarns and put everything in a large bag with multiple circular sock needles, stitch markers and other accessories.

Today we were notified of the first pattern, that is which pattern will be first (pattern D- we don’t have the name yet). The first pattern which is the qualifying pair will be a single color sock with beads! And the pattern will be published in the next 40 hours or so. This means that I will now be frantically checking my email every hour just in case and hope it will not arrive just as I go to sleep:)

My supplies for the first pattern in this year’s Sock Madness

Above you can see the yarns I have chosen to use for this year’s Sock Madness and of course you see some of my cats as well. They are always there when I need to take pictures or organize something on my bed:)

So lot’s of sock knitting coming up for me. But I must not forget to work on the short sleeved sweater for my daughter and make some progress on baby knits and crochet blankets.

Before I leave you today let me just show you the latest baby knits.

That’s all for today. Thank you for stopping by. I hope you have enjoyed checking out my latest knits. If you are part of SM15 then all the best to you.

Have a great weekend ahead, stay safe and stay healthy. Enjoy your knitting.
